Adobe (ADBE) Lowers 2nd Quarter Revenue Outlook

Shares of Adobe (NASDAQ:ADBE) were pressured downwards after the quarterly report of the company, even though it exceeded revenue expectations, as the guidance of the company was downwardly revised on its exposure to Japan.

Japan is the second-largest market served by Adobe, with March being its historically strongest month there.

Revenue for the three months ended March 4th jumped 20%, year over year, to $1.03 billion, generating EPS of 58 cents. Analysts had been looking for 57 cents EPS on revenue of $1.03 billion.

Microsoft (MSFT), Adobe (ADBE), Cisco (CSCO), eBay (EBAY) Make Ethics List, Surprising Who Doesn't

Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), Adobe (NASDAQ:ADBE), Cisco (CSCO) and eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY) all made a list of most ethical companies in the world, as compiled by the Ethisphere Institute, while tech giants Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Facebook and Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) didn't make the cut this time around.

Of the approximate 3,000 or more companies that apply to be on the list, only 110 make it.

Criteria for the list includes nominations from peers, sustainable business practices, and the history of a company for regulatory infractions.

If a company has had any major legal problems over the last five-year period, they are automatically disqualified, which speaks to some of the techs being investigated in Europe over antitrust violations.

EBay closed Wednesday at $29.73, falling $0.71, or 2.33 percent. Cisco closed at $17.05, dropping $0.34, or 1.96 percent. Adobe closed at $32.09, down $0.95, or 2.88 percent. Microsoft closed at $24.79, falling $0.60, or 2.36 percent.

XOOM (MMI) Getting Flash (ADBE) Next Week - Is That Good?

Depending on your thoughts on Adobe's (NASDAQ:ADBE) Flash, news that Motorola Mobility's XOOM (MMI) will be getting the software next week for the device is either good or bad.

Adobe said, "We have been working very closely with Google to ensure tight integration between Flash Player 10.2 and new OS and browser capabilities in Android 3.0. The March 18th beta release of Flash Player 10.2 in conjunction with Google's first system update to Android 3.0 (version 3.0.1) currently underway for the MOTOROLA XOOM™ will deliver the first phase of our work together. This will be followed by subsequent updates, which will complete the optimizations and result in a production GA release of Flash Player 10.2 for Android 3.0."

To say that Mozilla's Jay Sullivan is not a fan of Flash is to make an understatement, as it's weighed heavily on the performance of Firefox.

He said when asked if the believes Flash is going away, "I think so in the long run. A lot of it has to do with HTML5. With Firefox 4, Internet Explorer 9, and Chrome, to the extent that we provide functionality in enough browsers, then the developers will switch over to HTML5, especially in mobile, where you can't have Flash popping up on every page just to do some little animation. The idea that you'd have to embed an entire instance of the Flash player just to play a 30 second audio clip? It's crazy."

Others think it's an important differentiator from Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad.

Adobe was trading at $34.38, down $0.48, or 1.38 percent, as of 1:30 PM EST. Motorola Mobility was trading at $24.54, down $0.67, or 2.66 percent, as of 1:33 PM EST.

Motorola Solutions (MSI), Adobe (ADBE), Symantec (SYMC), Cummins (CMI), Aetna (AET) Executives Join Government Board

A government board put together for the purpose of studying how to streamline the government was added to again, as executives from Motorola Solutions (NYSE:MSI), Adobe Systems (NADSAQ:ADBE), Symantec Corp (NASDAQ:SYMC), Cummins (NYSE:CMI) and Aetna (NYSE:AET) joined the entity.

The administration official releasing the information said the board will advise Obama on how to improve the government's efficiency and effectiveness.

I'm not sure why executives are taking time from their productive work to waste efforts on this, as what part of limiting the size of government doesn't Obama and the majority of politicians in Washington not understand.

They can't continue to kick the can down the road, as the length of the road is coming to an end, and someone has to make the right decisions for this country to economically survive.

Those named to the board are Aetna (NYSE:AET) Chairman Ronald Williams, Symantec (NASDAQ:SYMC) CEO Enrique Salem, OSI Restaurant Partners (OSI.UL) CEO Elizabeth Smith and Cummins (NYSE:CMI) CEO Tim Solso.

Other executives named to the board include BET Networks CEO Debra Lee, Motorola Solutions Chief Executive Greg Brown, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen Sabre Holdings (TSG.UL) CEO Sam Gilliland, former Pfizer Inc (NYSE:PFE) CEO Jeffrey Kindler and American Red Cross CEO Gail McGovern.

Adobe (ADBE), Cisco (CSCO), Intel (INTC) Continue Opposition to Patent Bill

Although they originally supported the passage of patent reform, Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO), Adobe (NASDAQ:ADBE) and Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) now oppose the proposed changes, even while a bill passed overwhelmingly in the Senate.

Part of the Coalition for Patent Fairness, the companies withdrew support for the bill during the process.

There is no companion bill in the U.S. House of Representatives at this time, but Republican Representative Lamar Smith said he is close to completing a draft.

One ridiculous consequence of the bill is it now increases the size and funding of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office at a time the country is essentially bankrupt.

One major changed under the Senate bill, is the United States would grant precedence to the first inventor to file a patent application, rather than requiring patent office examiners to decide who was first to produce an invention.

General Electric (GE), (JNJ), (DIS), (GOOG), Among Companies Hacked in 2010

According to a Bloomberg report released today, major companies like General Electric (NYSE:GE), Disney (NYSE:DIS), Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), DuPont (NYSE:DD) and Sony (NYSE:SNE) experienced serious hacks into their networks in 2010, saying they were similar to the one Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) got hit with.

Information in emails from security firm HBGary were culled to gather the data, which had performed an investigation into the attacks.

At the time of the Google attack, tech companies such as Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) and Adobe Systems (NASDAQ:ADBE) said they had also been under attack.

According to the Bloomberg report, the attacks were “industrial espionage by hackers based in China, Russia and other countries.”

None of the companies have revealed the nature or extent of the attacks, so it's not clear what impact it had on the firms, although normally they report if it could effect the share price of the company, an din cases of material impact, they're required to report the consequences.

Can Adobe (NASDAQ:ADBE) Deliver on Promises?

Adobe (NASDAQ:ADBE) has recently been communicating to the market that they're in the midst of reinventing themselves, Brigantine notes they're going to wait to see if management is able to deliver on their promises.

Brigantine says, "Adobe Systems’ management has been vocal over the past couple weeks about how they are reinventing themselves. For instance: more frequent releases of Creative Suite, acquiring more online marketing companies and continued emphasis on SaaS focused enterprise products. Our Take – We believe that it is really hard to change tires while going 70 miles an hour, but understand why Adobe needs to.

"For revenues in FY2011 we are low on the street expecting 3.6% year on year, while the street is expecting 9.5% growth. Our EPS expectations for 2011 are in line with street expectations...Shares of Adobe are currently trading at 14.5x our 2011 EPS expectations of $2.32, while our universe is trading at 19.5x. We believe that this discount is warranted until Adobe’s management team shows that it can make these changes successfully."

Brigantine Advisors reiterates a 'Hold' on Adobe (ADBE), which was trading at $33.51, down $0.05, or 0.15 percent, as of 2:33 PM EST.

Research in Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM) Playbook Hampered by Adobe's (NASDAQ:ADBE) Flash?

Research in Motion (NASDAQ:RIMM) was forced on the defensive last week when a Kaufman analyst said their soon-to-be-released Playbook tablet has a battery life far below their already-entrenched competitors. Kaufman said Monday it's probably the consequences of using Adobe's (NASDAQ:ADBE) Flash.

RIM attempted to refute that assertion, but Kaufman's Wu maintains his stance, saying to compete with the iPad (Nasdaq:AAPL) and others, it'll have to incorporate a larger battery.

Wu said, "As seen in recent tests for the new MacBook Air, use of Flash can cut battery life in half. It should be no surprise to anyone that our checks indicate Adobe is furiously working on reducing Flash’s consumption of resources to make it a viable mobile platform vs. HTML5 that both Apple and Google are moving toward."

Research in Motion was trading at $59.22, up $1.09, or 1.88 percent, as of 1:18 PM EST. Adobe was at $31.17, up $0.39, or 1.27 percent.
