Shares of Brush Engineered Materials (NYSE:BW), Faro (NASDAQ:FARO), Polypore International (NYSE:PPO) and Kadant (NYSE:KAI) all soared Thursday, even as the Dow plummeted for the third day in a row.
Brush Engineered Materials generated net income of $12.6 million, or $0.61 a diluted share for the fourth quarter, which is equal to a net loss of $3.6 million, or $0.18 a share in the fourth quarter last year. BW ended Thursday up 20.43 percent.
Polypore International (PPO) said revenue jumped 12 percent to $169.5 million and adjusted EPS was up 17% to $0.42. Polypore closed Thursday at $56.53, up $7.00, or 14.13 percent.
FARO Technologies (FARO) generated fiscal 2010 sales of $191.8 million, an increase of 29.9%, compared to fiscal 2009 sales of $147.7 million. Net income was $11.1 million compared to net loss of $10.6 million in fiscal 2009. FARO closed at $35.19, gaining $5.35, or 17.93 percent.
Kadant's (KAI) revenue rose to $73.3 million in the fourth quarter of 2010, an increase of $16.5 million, or 29 percent, compared with $56.8 million in the same quarter of 2009. Net income was $5.1 million in the fourth quarter, or $.41 per diluted share, compared to a net loss of $1.7 million, or $.14 per diluted share, in the same quarter last year.
Kadant closed Thursday at $23.89, gaining $3.08, or 14.80 percent.
