Buy Yahoo! (YHOO) Sell Baidu (BIDU)?
Even though Baidu (NASDAQ:BIDU) has enjoyed the type of investor love Google (NASDAQ:GOOG), in what may be shocking to some, Yahoo! (NASDAQ:YHOO) at this time may be the better buy of the two, after Baidu's long run over the last couple of years which has pushed its share price up 11 fold.
Obviously you wanted to hold Baidu during that time, but that was then and this is now.
Even more surprising to investors in 2011, Yahoo is expected to earn over 14 percent for the year, bringing its total earnings to $997 million, while Baidu's earnings are estimated to reach $876 million.
And taking into account the fact that Yahoo's cash holdings are $3.5 billion, about three times the amount Baidu has on hand.
So with Yahoo selling at 1.77 times book value and Baidu at 38 times book value, you can see the extreme undervaluation of Yahoo when taking the above data into account versus Baidu's potential to be in a bubble situation.
Baidu was trading at $145.90, gaining $4.02, or 2.83 percent, as of 12:40 PM EDT. Yahoo was trading at $16.65, falling $0.12, or 0.72 percent.

Baidu was by far the top performer of the companies he has significant investment in, up 31.7 percent during that period of time.
Following far behind, but still performing strong is National Oilwell Varco, which is up 17.0 percent.

After those, the next two best performers were Boeing (NYSE: BA) at 10.7 percent and Dover Corp. (NYSE: DOV) with 10.5 percent.

Novellus Systems (Nasdaq:NVLS), Anadarko (NYSE:APC) and Baidu (Nasdaq:BIDU) all were active in after hours trading, as each company reported their quarterly results Monday.
Novellus Systems' fourth-quarter profits were driven by ongoing demand for semiconductors, with profits more than doubling during the period. Semiconductor sales continue to be robust because of the strong personal-computer and laptop-computer demand as the adoption of Microsoft Corp's (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows 7 software remains unabated. Shares rose 3.41 percent, to $37.30 in after-hours trading, as Novellus' bottom line was greater than its December estimate.
Anadarko Petroleum's fourth-quarter profit dropped 52% as the oil-and-gas producer reported higher derivative gains a year ago, while overall production and revenue increased during the latest quarter. Excluding items, Anadarko's bottom line, easily surpassed Wall Street's expectations, although top-line growth fell short of projections. Shares fell $0.83, or 1.08 percent, to $76.25 in after-hours trading.
Baidu's fourth-quarter revenue almost doubled, and its earnings more than doubled - as China's top Internet search engine posted results which exceeded analysts' estimates. The American depositary shares of the company were up 7.57 percent at $116.75 after hours.

Baidu's (NASDAQ:BIDU) Growth Challenged by Google (Nasdaq:GOOG), Taobao
There's no doubt Baidu's (NASDAQ:BIDU) fourth quarter results will be impressive, as growth is expected to be over 80 percent for 2010. The question is how Baidu will do going forward, as competition heats up from Google (Nasdaq:GOOG) and privately held Taobao.
Auriga says, "We maintain our rating on BIDU ahead of 4Q10 results despite our expectations of a strong quarter. While BIDU is likely to report Y/Y growth north of 80% in 2010, we believe full year 2011 could be a tough year in terms of competition and growth compared to 2010. We believe increasing competition from Google (GOOG)(NR) and Taobao (private) can impose pressure on BIDU's growth. Consensus' expectations of 61% Y/Y revenue growth are aggressive we believe. Based on our updated model and estimates, we believe the stock is worth $107 vs. our previous price target of $79 and it is fairly valued at these levels. The upside for the stock price from here in 2011 could be limited."
Auriga maintains a "Hold" rating on Baidu (BIDU), which was trading at $106.61, dropping $2.44, or 2.24 percent, as of 1:11 PM EST. Auriga raised their price target on Baidu from $79 to $107.

Baidu (NASDAQ:BIDU) Remains Interesting Growth Story Says Kaufman
With Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX), Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM) dominating the tech news recently, Baidu (NASDAQ:BIDU) and others have been quietly in the background, although that should change when it reports earnings on Monday, which should reinforce their growth narrative as a long and sustainable one.
Kaufman says, "Baidu reports 4Q results Monday, January 31st after the close. We estimate 4Q gross revenues of $364M (97% Y/Y, 93% constant currency, 8% Q/Q), which is in line with the consensus estimate of $362M and at the high end of BIDU's guidance range of $354.2M-$364.7M. We estimate over 13,000 net new customer additions for 4Q from 272,000 reported in 3Q. We expect average revenue per customer to be up 54% Y/Y and 3% Q/Q. We expect PF EPS to be largely in line with our and the consensus estimate of $0.46; however, we would not be surprised to see the company come in modestly above this number with the potential for better than expected operating leverage. We anticipate that the company may issue conservative 1Q11 top-line guidance, perhaps lower at the midpoint than the current consensus of $354M."
Kaufman Bros. maintains a 'Buy' rating on Baidu (BIDU), which was trading at $109.63, gaining $1.68, or 1.56 percent, as of 2:34 PM EST. Kaufman has a price target on Baidu of $118.
