An unidentified glitch caused panic among the Hotmail faithful caused panic Monday, as complaints poured into Microsoft (Nasdaq:MSFT) about the loss of e-mails by thousands of users.
Microsoft announced they found the problem causing the temporary loss of all e-mails in some users' boxes, but didn't identify the specific cause behind the problem.
Chris Jones, senior vice president of Microsoft's Windows Live business, said, "As with all incidents like this, we will fully investigate the cause and will take steps to prevent this from happening again."
What was identified was the exact number of users losing their e-mails, which was 17,355. Microsoft said they returned the missing messages on Sunday evening.
