Protalix BioTherapeutics (NYSE:PLX) Up as They Wait Till After FDA Approval to Raise Capital

Shareholders and investors were relieved that Protalix BioTherapeutics (NYSE:PLX) will wait until after the FDA approves of taliglucerase, which a large number believe will happen.

Protalix has recently filed a $150 million shelf offering which they have now abandoned.

The PDUFA date for taliglucerase is February 25.

Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC) also recently noted that revenues for Genzyme (Nasdaq:GENZ) from Cerezyme were lower than expected for the fourth quarter, citing supply issues. They consider that a positive for Protalix.

Protalix closed Wednesday at $10.19, up $0.07, or 0.69 percent.

Protalix BioTherapeutics (AMEX:PLX) Looks Good on Probable Taliglucerase Approval

With Protalix BioTherapeutics' (AMEX:PLX) partner Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) expected to get approval for taliglucerase, it should be a strong catalyst for both companies in 2011.

Canaccord said, "We think PLX and partner Pfizer’s taliglucerase (tali) for Gaucher’s will be approved by FDA on its Feb. 25 PDUFA date. Q1/11 pivotal extension and full switch study data may be key catalysts. We expect a strong US launch in late Q1/11 driven by EAP patients and Phase 3b data. We think tali will capture -15+% of the $1.2B+ Gaucher’s market, taking Cerezyme market share through strong marketing."

Canaccord Genuity reiterates a "Buy" on Protalix BioTherapeutics, which closed Thursday at $10.46, gaining $0.24, or 2.35 percent. Canaccord has a price target of $13 on them, raising it from $10.

Protalix BioTherapeutics' (NYSE:PLX) tali EMEA Catalyst in Early 2011

With approval for taliglucerase (tali) expected to be given by the US on its February 25 PDUFA date, it could be a major catalyst for the company in the first quarter of 2011.

Canaccord said, "We think taliglucerase (tali) from Protalix and partner Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) for Gaucher disease will be approved in the US on its Feb. 25 PDUFA date. Q1/11 tali pivotal extension and full switch study data may be key catalysts, likely in mid-February 2011. We expect a strong US launch in late Q1/11 driven by EAP patients and Phase 3b data. We think tali will capture - 15+% of the $1.2B+ Gaucher market, taking Cerezyme market share by effective marketing. Our $10 target is based on a pNPV analysis."

In the EU, the application has been submitted and tali EMEA could be approved in the early part of 2012.

Canaccord reiterates a 'Buy' rating on Protalix BioTherapeutics, which closed Tuesday at $8.74, falling slightly by $0.06, or 0.68 percent. They have a price target of $10 on them.
