AnnTaylor Stores (NYSE:ANN) Selloff Overdone Say Janney Montgomery Scott
AnnTaylor Stores (NYSE:ANN) sold off about 6 percent of what appears to be a read-through trade based on the slashing of guidance by Talbots (NYSE:TLB).
JMS says, "On January 11, ANN sold off roughly 6% on what we believe was a read-through trade from the dramatically lowered guidance issued by Talbots (NYSE:TLB). TLB commented specifically on not seeing improvements in weeks 4 and 5 of December as they went deeper into promotions. We believe it is important to note that the issues faced by TLB appear to be company-specific issues with merchandise and promotions; as such, we would use the recent sell-off to accumulate shares of ANN...We do not see risk to our and the consensus estimate of $0.14 for 4Q10 and believe there could be potential for upside. We are also comfortable with our FY2011 EPS estimate of $1.66 versus the street at $1.63."
Janney Montgomery Scott maintains a "Buy" rating on AnnTaylor Stores, which was trading at $24.24, up $1.60, or 7.11 percent, as of 12:43 PM EST. Talbots was trading at $6.12, down $0.12, or 1.92 percent. Janney has a price target on AnnTaylor of $32.

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (NASDAQ:GMCR) Fundamentals As Good As They've Been
Janney Montgomery Scott said that after guidance in some areas of the company were lowered at Green Mountain Coffee Roasters (NASDAQ:GMCR) by management, it's sure to result in some pullback. But they assert investors should buy on the lows when they occur, as the underlying fundamentals are as good as they've ever been for the company.
"... management pulled back on some guidance metrics, undoubtedly driven by the current events, which will likely be interpreted negatively. We believe the weakness in the stock after hours provides an attractive entry point with a fundamental backdrop that has never been better...We are raising our FY11 EPS estimate to $1.24 (from $1.23); management lowered the bottom end of its FY11 EPS guidance by a nickel ($1.19 to $1.29). Fairchild Semi (NYSE:FCS) Boosted to "Buy" from Janney Montgomery Scott
Saying that most of the issues related to credit for Fairchild Semi (NYSE:FCS) have been resolved, Janney Montgomery Scott bumped up their rating on them to a "Buy."
JMS said, "4Q10 results were below expectations on weakening credit and shares were down on the results. We are lowering our FY11 estimates to reflect the increase in non-accruals but believe the company has worked through most of its credit issues. We are raising our rating to BUY based on Fifth Street's strong NII growth potential and discount valuation to its peers. Our primary concern with the name has been the estimates below company's ability to grow the reflect our projected Net portfolio and drive NII in line with Interest Income (NII) per the dividend. Fifth Street has share significantly upgraded its infrastructure, adding both."
Fairchild closed Monday at $15.31, up by $0.29, or 1.93 percent. Janney has a price target of $12.50 on them.
